It's my mission to make sure that all streamers learn how to run their businesses and manage their personal finances. I want to help you transition from an accidental business owner to someone who acts with intention and knowledge. Most of us weren't taught those skills in school. I see so much potential in all of you and I don't want something as manageable as taxes get in your way. I couldn't find any traditional planning firms working with streamers so I went out and started my own. I have always had an obsession with video games. WoW basically consumed my college life. When I moved halfway across the country for a new job I found my friends in the StarCraft club at work. I watch professional DotA 2 and StarCraft whenever I can. My current addiction is Rimworld. Hello! My name is Billy (he/him), owner of Billfold Budget Counseling. I provide accessible financial advice for folks who want to see (or even make) significant, progressive change in our world. My goal is to help you tackle your financial challenges, so you can focus on making the world a more compassionate, diverse, and understanding place. I believe that money is not a natural thing. Be it overspending, living paycheck to paycheck, or a low credit score…these money mishaps are actually quite common. Because of this, I feel that there’s no shame in not understanding personal finance. Heck, when I was studying accounting as an undergrad, I managed to get in over my head with credit card debt. A situation due to a lack of personal finance knowledge. But this overwhelming burden would weigh on my every action, and my not-so-wise decision to ignore the problem only made it worse. I was eventually able to pay off my debt through sheer chance (and lots of part-time work), but I never wanted to feel that level of anxiety again. However, what was bad for me is often worse for others. In this country, there are haves and have-nots, and money has historically been hoarded by haves: rich, white, powerful men. As a privileged white male, I had the opportunities that lead me to eventually being debt-free. I could see how my challenges were relatively small compared to the structural issues that other folks face. So, I’ve made it my mission to not only provide financial planning, education, and coaching but to have my advice be as accessible as possible. Especially to those who have had dealt with money hardships, but still want to give back to their communities. This provides clients with a partnership that goes deeper into your financial planning needs. Our goals is to be the go to for all things financial, and to be your accountability partner in implementation. Many advisors draft clients a plan, but we work to together to live it. I was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley in LA. I spent a few years away while at San Diego State University. After graduating, I spent nearly nine months in Israel working odd jobs and enjoying time with my friends and family. I came back to LA in 2014 where I got my first "real" job at a large insurance and investment firm. I got licensed as a financial advisor in 2015, which allowed me to focus full time on financial planning and investment management. I earned my CFP® certification in 2017, and soon after in 2018, I decided it was time to start my own firm. I wanted to leave the whole corporate structure behind and work with the clients who I wanted to work with. I was tired of various sales quotas and metrics.
