At SageOak®, I help clients reduce stress and free up time to focus on the things that matter most to them, such as faith, family, and friends. While I serve a variety of clients, the folks who typically find my services the most valuable are working/medical professionals, business owners, near/current retirees, and faith-based individuals/organizations. For many of my clients, faith is an important part of their lives, but regardless of their faith background or season of life, clients usually seek me out to delegate the stress and headache that normally come with managing their own financial planning and investment needs. I started SageOak in 2013 and serve clients in person and virtually across the country. As Managing Director, I help develop and integrate our firm’s long-term vision and strategic plan, as well as provide ongoing financial planning, investment management, and wealth management services to our clients. On a more personal note, I grew up in a small town in northeastern Indiana. Before entering the financial services industry, I worked briefly in intercollegiate athletics as a college golf and basketball coach at a small Christian college in Kansas. I currently live in the Tulsa, OK area with my wife, who works part-time as a Physician Assistant. We’ve lost two children in miscarriages over the years, but God has also blessed our family with a rambunctious boy, four sweet girls, and an energetic Cavapoo named Hoosier! In our community, I currently serve on the board of directors for Classically Formed Inc., which operates Tulsa Classical Academy, Oklahoma's first public tuition-free classical charter school. I previously served on the board of directors for Happy Hands Education Center, a local Christian school for children from birth to age 6 who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have other communication disorders. I have also volunteered with various other local ministries and non-profits over the years, and my family and I are very active in our local church, Grace & Peace (PCA), where I serve as an ordained elder. For fun, I enjoy playing an occasional round of golf, staying physically active, reading good books, traveling to new places, and enjoying the craziness of raising five kids and a dog! I’m a native Oklahoman and I’ve spent the last decade working in wealth management firms before launching 1522 Financial in 2022. Previously, I was Chief Investment Officer at an independent Trust Company in Oklahoma. 1522 Financial is a modern wealth management firm that focuses on delivering innovative financial plans without unnecessary complexity. I believe planning should be like most things in life – flexible, and we do not require clients to have me manage their assets in order to work with us. Whether we’re diving into complex financial planning or helping to create investment portfolios to meet clients’ goals – we are a fiduciary. I’m a proud graduate of Oklahoma State University for both my Masters and Bachelors degrees. I also completed the Executive Program in Financial Planning from the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business. In addition, I hold the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Chartered Financial Analyst designations. I’ve spent most of the last decade building on my knowledge of financial planning, financial markets, and investing in an effort to be the best possible resource for my clients. After passing the Series 7, 66, and OK Insurance exams, I worked as an Associate Advisor for several years, supporting several hundred client relationships, servicing 1-2 dozen retirement plans, and assisting with several business transitions with a client retention rate of over 95%. As a 3rd generation CFP, I wanted to challenge myself with new experiences and left the family firm to provide professional paraplanning for fee-only advisors, while I obtained the credentials of CFP®, CEPA®, ChFC®, and CKA®. I served on the Tulsa Board of the Financial Planning Association, including one term as President. I started the FPA NexGen Tulsa group to support younger advisors. He joined Merrill Lynch in 1994 after three years in commercial banking and has since built a team of more than a dozen financial professionals. Matt’s expertise encompasses family wealth management, legacy planning, philanthropy, retirement income, and comprehensive investment strategies. He has extensive experience working with generations of families and understands the complexities of accumulating and preserving wealth across market environments. Matt holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® (CFP®), Certified Investment Management Analyst® (CIMA®), and Personal Investment Advisor (PIA) designations. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Oklahoma State University. Throughout his career, Matt has received recognition from Barron’s, appearing on the “Top 1,200 Financial Advisors” list from 2010 through 2025, and from Forbes as a “Best-in-State Wealth Advisor” from 2018 to 2025. He serves as Chair of the Board for The Parent Child Center of Tulsa and Chair of the Friends of Scouting Campaign for the Indian Nations Boy Scout Council. Matt is a past member of the Metro Christian Academy Board of Trustees and a member of the Committee of 100. He and his wife, Alice, have a son named Caleb and enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, running, and traveling.
