I often see people start to work with me around 45-60 to get a head start on their future, but also have a variety of others I work with as well. I began my career in Corporate Finance, but my passion for personal planning was sparked when I realized that I missed a few financial opportunities in my own life. In the early years, between work and building a family, time is at a premium. While my husband and I had interest in managing our financial lives, we didn’t have the time to be intentional about it. Working with a financial professional would have been beneficial, but at the time, we didn’t know how to afford it, who to trust, or where to seek qualified advice. So, I decided to become the person we were seeking. In 2017, I started pursuit of the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification, which requires a fiduciary oath to always put my clients’ best interests first. I founded Ascend Financial in 2023 because I believe financial planning should be accessible. At Ascend, we have no asset minimums. Our typical client is in their career-building phase, seeking advice on managing a lot of big-ticket expenses, and trying to maximize their opportunities for savings and retirement. In addition to comprehensive financial planning and investment management services, we also provide college funding analysis and student loan planning. Knowing that education is often one of the largest expenses a family incurs, we prioritize our skills in navigating the complex and ever-changing landscape of student loan and financial aid programs. At Ascend, we help clients organize their financial lives, dream about their goals, and analyze the what-if situations that come up. Our goal is to make sure that you see the opportunities that lie ahead, instead of noticing them in the rear-view mirror.

During my career, I have had the opportunity to work with a full spectrum of clients, including those opening their first retirement accounts to those on top of the Forbes wealthiest list and their family offices. A family office is one that a wealthy family hires as the necessary professionals to handle their wealth management as full-time employees working solely for their family. Each wealthy family has a dedicated CEO who runs their entire office and encompasses subject matter expertise in numerous areas. Family offices are usually reserved for people with an excess of $100 million because of the cost to create and maintain them. Every member of the office collaborates to ensure the family’s goals are achieved. My time working with the world’s wealthiest and supporting their family offices has created a desire to emulate this model for all by collaborating with your existing team of professionals. As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner, Chartered Financial Consultant®, and Enrolled Agent with the IRS I focus on bringing the collaborative planning delivered by Family Offices to the clients who work with our team. This means collaborating with the existing professionals in their lives to cover all aspects of their comprehensive planning needs. This may include details associated with asset allocation, investment research, portfolio manager selection, real estate investment analysis, business planning, estate planning, tax planning, risk management and retirement planning. I cherish the trust and confidence that clients place in me to provide guidance along the path toward financial independence. After 17 years in the industry, I have come to realize that building relationships with clients and their team of professionals allows us to be a resource for them to pursue financial success and, in turn, provide me with the greatest satisfaction.

Matt developed a passion for the financial services industry as a client of the industry. His unique perspective of being a client is an essential part of Matt’s success, as he can easily see things from the client’s point of view. Matt received a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology. After spending the early part of his career as a Professional Engineer designing land development projects, Matt developed the calling to help others learn and develop the best practices around money that have benefited he and his family. His mission is to help his clients bring their futures into the present so they can make informed and educated decisions around their money. Outside the office, Matt spends much of his time with his daughter and wife. He is an active steward at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church.
