About

Tolsma Investments provides financial planning and portfolio management to individual and high‑net‑worth clients and small businesses, addressing areas such as cash flow and budgeting, retirement planning, estate planning, and business consultation. The firm also offers both paid and complimentary educational workshops on personal finance and investing as part of its service suite.

Its investment approach emphasizes a long‑term, globally diversified asset allocation guided by Modern Portfolio Theory and a Core+Satellite structure, combined with fundamental, technical, and cyclical analysis and periodic tactical adjustments. The firm also employs a total‑return overlay that can include option strategies—specifically cash‑covered put writing and covered calls—and discloses the use of derivatives in separately managed accounts.

Operationally the firm is unusual among its peers: it operates with a single investment adviser representative while managing roughly $552.7 million in regulatory assets, producing a high AUM‑per‑advisor profile. It manages the vast majority of those assets on a non‑discretionary basis (about $525,857,861 non‑discretionary vs. $26,868,904 discretionary as of 12/31/2025), and its discretionary portfolio management is limited to accounts maintained at a specific custodian, which affects how trades are executed and aggregated.

Tolsma Investments, LLC

I'm passionate about helping people. I believe good financial management helps people live richer, happier lives; have closer, stronger families; and become better-contributing members to society. I'm proud to serve clients as a fiduciary and as their trusted steward as they make critical financial decisions in an uncertain world. I believe everyone should have a personal Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for their financial life. I am the founder and managing director of Tolsma Investments, LLC, a registered investment advisor (RIA) in Washington State. This registration allows me to serve clients as an investment advisor and financial planner under the fiduciary standard. I am an independent advisor. This allows me to serve clients by giving them the power of choice and removing conflicts of interests. I am a happily married family man with a wonderful wife and 4-daughters. I grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta, GA and attended college at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. I spent 6 years working for Fidelity Investments in their investing, brokerage, and financial planning business. I was a Financial Consultant in the Bellevue, WA office where I was the primary investment advisor and wealth manager for Fidelity’s high net worth clients in their private client group offering. The families I supported covered $450 million in assets and I held over 800 appointments per year on average. This pace of work was exciting and busy! This experience gave me the training, education, and experience that clients will come to appreciate as I serve them as their fiduciary advisor and an expert in this field. A key value for me in deciding if I should start my own planning and advising firm was the idea that I could work more comprehensively and in more detail with clients if I could serve them as an independent fiduciary in all circumstances. I feel I can serve clients better when there are no proprietary products I am required to sell, no sales targets to meet, and no management to answer to if clients choose one investment over the other. My focus really is on you, the client, and everything I do is built on this belief. This is what I bring to the table as your personal CFO and helping you craft and live the life you desire with the financial plan to make that possible.
