About

The firm provides investment management and financial planning services to individual clients, including high‑net‑worth individuals, and offers both ongoing comprehensive and limited‑scope planning engagements. It also implements discretionary portfolio management and can place client assets with third‑party managers through Schwab’s Managed Account programs and separately managed accounts.

The firm’s investment approach emphasizes passive, asset‑class‑based portfolios built from index mutual funds and ETFs, while also using fundamental, technical, and cyclical analysis as appropriate and monitoring accounts on a quarterly basis. Clients may impose reasonable restrictions on holdings, and the adviser conducts manager due diligence when recommending outside managers or TAMPs.

Noteworthy features include operating as a solo adviser with no additional staff while maintaining multiple offices and a relatively small client base, and offering financial planning engagements delivered as an employer benefit in addition to individual client work. The firm discloses the principal’s unpaid volunteer leadership role at a local church, does not provide separate written investment reports to managed‑account clients, and does not aggregate client trades into block orders.

Rule72 Financial

I work with people who once managed their own investments until their finances became more complex and they realized they wanted a seasoned advisor to guide them. I'm in Northern Virginia and meet with clients in person and virtually, locally or globally. My main goal is to help people find creative ways to accomplish what they want to do and people are often surprised they can by using our Rule72 Principles! I do this by organizing your finances, clarifying your life plans, and answering questions such as: 1. When can I make work optional? 2. How do I pay less in taxes? 3. How do I avoid losing money when the markets go down? 4. What should I do with my new wealth, inheritance, or business income? 5. How do I leave a legacy or provide tax-advantaged charitable giving? I’ve been advising high-net-worth clients—including veterans and expatriates since 2018. Based in Loudoun County, Virginia, near Washington, D.C., I enjoy working with clients both locally and globally. I am also a retired U.S. Air Force veteran and enjoy helping other veterans learn about sound financial principles practiced by Rule72. Outside of my practice, I enjoy spending time with my three grown children. In addition to travel, I visit local museums and battlefields, staying active outdoors, and supporting several charitable organizations. David Miller is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and U.S. Air Force veteran. He holds a master’s degree from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces (Financial Services Industry, 2005) and completed the CFP® education at the University of Virginia. David founded Rule72 Financial to help professionals, business owners, and inheritors simplify wealth, reduce taxes, and build lasting legacies. Based in Northern Virginia, he serves clients locally and across the U.S
