Pivotal Research Group provides sell-side equity research and related advisory services to institutional investors, including mutual funds, hedge funds, pension funds and family offices. The firm delivers written research and analyst consultation, arranges meetings and conference calls with company management, and contributes to clients’ alpha-generation products while not opening or maintaining client accounts or managing client assets.

Pivotal employs a fundamentals-based approach that combines top-down industry evaluation with bottoms-up financial modeling, producing 12–18 month price targets and BUY/HOLD/SELL ratings used by clients across multiple investment horizons. Fees are negotiated case-by-case and may be paid as fixed hard-dollar fees, through client commission arrangements or via CCAs/CSAs consistent with Section 28(e); the firm does not rely on percentage-of-assets-under-management fees.

Compared with many peers, Pivotal reports an uncommon institutional client mix that includes sovereign wealth funds, other registered investment advisers and investment company clients, and it distributes research to both paying and non-paying institutional recipients. The firm is a small analyst-led boutique—senior analysts average over 15 years of experience—that enforces strict personal-trading limits for coverage securities and participates directly in select client mock portfolios, distinguishing its hands-on research role from larger managers.
