About
Peabody River Asset Management is a fee-only registered investment adviser that provides discretionary and non-discretionary portfolio management, financial planning, and investment consulting to individuals, families, and institutional clients, including charitable organizations, foundations, and endowments. The firm advises on total-portfolio construction and will work to integrate held-away retirement accounts through limited authorities when necessary.
The firm follows a top-down, four-stage portfolio construction process—asset class allocation, asset location, asset allocation, and security selection—favoring ETFs, ETNs, individual bonds, and MLPs and using a mostly buy-and-hold approach with periodic rebalancing and tax-aware retention of legacy holdings. Peabody River supplements fundamental judgment with quantitative risk models, constructs laddered bond portfolios for income needs, and, only rarely and for suitably informed clients, may employ options or futures for specific purposes.
Noteworthy among peers, Peabody River serves charitable and institutional accounts and offers an eleemosynary discount for not-for-profit clients, a practice uncommon for firms of this type. The firm combines an institutional custody/trading platform with a hands-on review cadence (the manager reviews client portfolios frequently and arranges at least annual client meetings) and will, at a client’s request, delegate domestic equity management to selected independent RIAs without increasing the client’s total fee.
