About

Miller/Howard provides discretionary portfolio management and sub-advisory services for a mix of individual and high-net-worth clients as well as institutional investors, including pension plans, endowments, investment companies, and state or municipal entities. The firm manages separately managed accounts and model portfolios and may transact in pooled vehicles and mutual fund/ETP sub-advisory relationships; it will purchase IPOs on behalf of institutional clients when deemed appropriate.

The firm follows a research-driven process that combines fundamental and quantitative analysis with ESG integration under its Sustainable Income Opportunities® framework, with an emphasis on high-quality, dividend-paying companies and income generation. Strategies are managed at the portfolio level and include Income-Equity variants (including versions that avoid MLPs and K-1s), MLP & Midstream, Infrastructure, Utilities Plus, North American Energy (No K-1s), and a recently marketed Clean Energy portfolio.

Compared with many multi-team advisers, Miller/Howard’s brochure highlights uncommon features: it serves investment companies and state/municipal clients, manages pooled investment vehicles and acts as sub-adviser, and has a corporate subsidiary (MHI Funds, LLC) with the ability to advise mutual funds though it is not currently doing so. The firm does not offer standalone financial planning services and emphasizes active stewardship—formal proxy voting policies and a UN PRI alignment—alongside institutional access such as selective IPO participation.
