About

Luminvest Wealth Management serves individual and high-net-worth clients as well as trusts, estates and charitable organizations, managing roughly $398 million across about 140 client relationships. The firm provides comprehensive portfolio management and standalone financial planning and consulting, covering investments in public and private securities, options, fixed income, and business-focused planning services such as corporate structure analysis and cost segregation studies.

The firm manages accounts on a discretionary basis, tailoring portfolios to client objectives and allowing reasonable investment restrictions while periodically rebalancing to target duration and risk profiles. Its investment process employs a broad toolkit — including fundamental, sector and cyclical analysis; technical and quantitative models; and use of options and margin where appropriate — and it maintains conservative cash allocations for liquidity and fee processing.

Compared with many peers, Luminvest combines a relatively large asset base with a two-advisor team and offers financial planning through a recurring subscription model rather than only one-time plans. The firm also recommends clients establish accounts with its custodian partner (Altruist) and may require limited agent authorization for accounts held elsewhere, and it generally does not provide automatic ongoing reviews of written financial plans without a follow-up engagement.

I began my career as grain trader gaining valuable experience with the futures market. I spent time as a brokerage specialist with New York Life providing me with a background in Life, Disability and Health Insurance. I then became a commercial loan officer at First Interstate Bank (now Wells Fargo). Before I moved to Vanguard, I worked with my father in a family business. After successfully transitioning him to retirement, I merged and then sold the business allowing me to pursue my passion which was to become a Certified Financial Planner, a CFP®. To accomplish this goal, I began with The Vanguard Group in their brokerage area as an equity specialist in 2006. I then successfully secured my CFP® designation getting my marks in the spring of 2009 which coincided with my promotion to the Fixed Income area. Another promotion to become a Senior Fixed Income Specialist followed allowing me to gain valuable experience with more complex bonds. When Vanguard began Personal Advisor Services in 2015, I moved into that area and assumed a role as a Financial Advisor. After a decade as a Senior Financial Advisor for Vanguard, I made the move to Luminvest Wealth Management as a Wealth Advisor. As a boutique with a limited number of clients, Luminvest allows me to be truly present for my clients. Further, I am empowered to be a Fiduciary on my client's behalf with low fees and full transparency. We specialize in building tax efficient, low-expense portfolios. In addition, I am very experienced in withdrawal strategies for my clients. With cutting-edge and dynamic financial planning tools, we can guide our clients forward amidst the ongoing uncertainty and volatility inherent with today's financial markets. Having been through the Great Financial Crisis, the Covid Crash, and the inflationary spiral of 2022, I stand with my clients as a calm and experienced professional partner allowing you to focus on your life while I focus on your finances.

About Trent White, CFP®, JD, LLM A little background on my journey to becoming a financial advisor. From a young age, I developed a profound interest in managing finances. I started investing in stocks when I was 12 years old using the modest income I earned from delivering newspapers. After I delivered those papers I often read the business, sports, and humor sections, which fueled my growing curiosity about investing. My father and grandfather played instrumental roles in expanding my knowledge of stocks, bonds, ETFs, options, and more. My late mother also played a pivotal role, instilling in me invaluable money skills and principles like saving for college and embracing charitable giving. Even before I could drive, she inspired me to launch my first business—lawn aeration! This fueled my entrepreneurial spirit and taught me the value of the dollar. I've always been fascinated by the power of compounding growth and how money can do good in the world. It's not just about making life more enjoyable by saving for fantastic trips (I love to travel!), but about using money as a force for positive change. That's why, while studying Financial Economics in college, I made up my mind to become a financial planner and help others manage their money wisely. During and after my formal education, I seized valuable opportunities to expand my knowledge and expertise. I actively sought out practical experiences, both as a volunteer and as a paid income tax preparer. Additionally, I delved into life insurance, initially as a captive agent and later as an independent one. These experiences provided valuable insights into different aspects of financial planning.. Eager to broaden my knowledge further, I pursued a law degree at BYU, passed the bar exam, and obtained esteemed credentials such as the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP) designation and other securities licenses. I later completed a post-law degree from Georgetown, a Tax LL.M. (Master of Laws in Taxation) with a Certificate in Estate Planning. For more than a decade now, I've been working with high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, helping them navigate investments and plan for their financial future. Most recently, I managed a book exceeding $1 billion in assets under management for approximately 150 ultra-high-net-worth households that were part of Vanguard’s Personal Advisor Services. Guided by a wealth of experience and knowledge, I am eager to utilize my skills to help you achieve your goals!
