About

Foster & Motley provides fee-only wealth management and financial planning to individuals and families, and also delivers institutional investment management to endowments, foundations, charities and corporations. The firm offers bundled investment management and financial planning, standalone consulting, and access to alternative and private investments for clients who meet regulatory qualifications; its ADV notes it managed over $2.88 billion in discretionary assets as of December 31, 2025.

The firm follows a bottom-up, core equity approach that blends valuation, dividend yield and dividend-growth characteristics with quality metrics, using a proprietary quantitative “expert system” to screen and discipline selections; fixed income, mutual funds and ETFs are used for diversification while alternatives and private funds are recommended where appropriate. Portfolios are managed on a largely discretionary basis with a tax-sensitive, long-hold orientation and an explicit sell discipline, and small accounts may be constructed primarily with funds and ETFs for diversification.

Distinctive features include a long operating history (registered with the SEC since the 1990s) and a multi-shareholder ownership structure, which the brochure describes as fourteen shareholders with no majority owner; the firm also documents client communications electronically (website, My Holdings client vault) and produces periodic client communications, and it discloses the use of client testimonials in its advertising. Foster & Motley also discloses its relationship with Schwab Advisor Services for custody and trading support and describes internal controls—such as a written Code of Ethics, trade aggregation policies, and periodic account reviews—used to manage conflicts and oversight.
