About

Collie Financial Planning, Inc. provides comprehensive financial planning and investment portfolio management to individuals — including high-net-worth clients — as well as retirement plan services for small and medium-sized businesses. The firm operates as a fee-only registered investment adviser and delivers services through discretionary portfolio management, project-based engagements, and hourly consulting arrangements.

The firm’s investment approach is grounded in Modern Portfolio Theory: Collie calculates a customized target asset allocation for each client, documents it in a written investment policy statement, and typically implements portfolios using no-load institutional mutual funds and exchange-traded funds. Client portfolios are monitored monthly, reviewed at least annually (or upon material changes), rebalanced as appropriate, and occasionally managed via separately managed accounts with sub-advisors when warranted.

Distinctive features include the firm’s practice of offering educational workshops and seminars to non-clients, a service the brochure notes is provided periodically and is less common among peers. Collie is a small advisory team managing about $162.9 million in discretionary assets across roughly 242 client relationships, maintains a solicitor relationship with Dave Ramsey’s SmartVestor Pro program, and offers flexible billing options (hourly, per-project, or asset-based) to accommodate different client needs.

Together we help our clients use their financial resources to achieve their most important goals in life, often incorporating their values into their planning and investments. We address comprehensive planning needs, including investment, retirement, tax, estate, education, insurance and charitable planning, making sure all of these components are working together to help clients achieve their goals. Mike's most important thing in life are his faith and his family, which includes wife Randi and sons Logan, Reece and Graham, and daughter-in-law McKenzie. We enjoy spending time together outside in the mountains and on the lake.

Upon graduating from Liberty University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and a major in Financial Planning in 2019, Logan began his career at a firm in Atlanta. After getting married in 2021, Logan and his wife McKenzie left the big city for the mountains of Colorado, while Logan worked remotely for a large firm in Chicago. Logan has passed the Series 65 exam, Uniform Investment Advisor Law Examination, and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®). Logan says, "I enjoy this business because it gives me an opportunity to build strong relationships and serve clients in a very important area of their lives. I take that responsibility very seriously and really look forward to building long-lasting and meaningful relationships with those that I get to interact with and serve." Logan was a collegiate athlete during his time at Liberty University and loves being outside. Logan and McKenzie enjoy spending time with their family and friends, as well as hiking, biking, camping and water sports, all of which are motivating factors in bringing them back to western NC (although they look forward to vacationing out west during ski season!). They are passionate about serving in their community, and will look to do so through their church and other volunteer opportunities.
