Calvert Research and Management

Calvert Research and Management acts primarily as an investment manager to pooled vehicles and institutional clients, serving as the investment adviser to a range of registered investment companies (the Calvert Funds), as well as separately managed institutional accounts and model-only or optimized strategies. Its services are also offered through bundled wrap-fee programs and dual-contract arrangements, including participation in wrap programs sponsored by an affiliate.

Calvert applies a principles-based responsible investing framework (the Calvert Principles) across actively managed, passively managed, optimized and model strategies, combining bottom-up fundamental and sustainability analysis with quantitative tools and proprietary indexes. The firm maintains proprietary Responsible and Research Indexes, engages in shareholder advocacy on select issues, and provides custom and model portfolio solutions that can be implemented directly or through affiliated managers.

Compared with many asset managers focused on pooled products, Calvert is notable for its array of firm affiliations and operational roles: it is part of the Morgan Stanley/Eaton Vance group, works closely with affiliated broker-dealers and banking entities, provides administrative services to the Calvert Funds, and is affiliated with a trust company. The firm also monitors and limits use of commodity interests (maintaining an exemption from CPO/CTA registration for its activities), participates in affiliate-sponsored wrap programs, and supports multi‑affiliate research and index capabilities that are uncommon among managers of its type.
