QEX Capital Management provides investment advisory and consulting services exclusively to registered investment advisor (RIA) firms, delivering proprietary portfolio allocation models and daily or intraday reports and trading signals. The firm does not accept individual investors and states that more than 99% of its revenue derives from licensing its models to RIA clients.

QEX’s investment approach is quantitative and model-driven, using proprietary price-trend and statistical systems (described in the brochure as the VAMA model for mutual funds and FRESH models for individual securities) to generate buy, sell and hold recommendations. Those models are automated and test-traded, aim to identify short-term market trends (including intraday signals and one- to two-day trading for stocks and ETFs) as well as intermediate holding periods for fund-based portfolios, and produce daily portfolio allocations for use by RIA clients.

Compared with many investment-manager firms, QEX is unusual in that it primarily licenses its models to other advisers rather than managing individual client accounts or relying on traditional retail percentage-of-AUM relationships, and its active output is concentrated with two RIA clients. The firm also concentrates model oversight with its sole principal, emphasizes long-running quantitative research dating back to the 1980s/2010s, and maintains geographically dispersed systems and outside statistical consulting to support timely delivery of its daily and intraday reports.
