Philosophy Capital Management provides discretionary investment management to private pooled vehicles — including Philosophy Capital Partners LP (the Flagship Fund) and the Philosophy Distressed and Special Situations Fund LP — as well as certain private funds sponsored by unaffiliated entities and a limited number of separately managed accounts. Its investor base is composed of qualified purchasers and accredited, high‑net‑worth and institutional investors, and the firm’s governing documents, investor minimums and redemption terms limit investor selection and liquidity.

The firm pursues an opportunistic, value‑oriented long/short strategy with a focus on value, event‑driven/distressed situations and short selling, and it uses a broad set of instruments (public equity and debt, private claims, derivatives, credit default swaps and related instruments). Philosophy employs leverage and hedging in Client Accounts, and — unusually for this type of firm — it also uses borrowing and derivatives within separately managed accounts in addition to its pooled funds.

Philosophy serves as general partner to its funds and states that it operates as a commodity pool operator/commodity trading adviser while claiming an exemption from CFTC registration, a structure that may affect regulatory oversight compared with many peers. The firm provides differing levels of information to certain investors under side‑letter arrangements and its principals and employees hold material personal investments in the funds, which the firm discloses as potential conflicts and addresses through written policies.
