My Financial Background: I am a CFA® Charterholder and CFP® Professional. For over a decade I served in various roles at Morgan Stanley and BNP Paribas in the New York metro area before relocating to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2021 where I was most recently a Vice President at Bank of America. Why I founded PB Wealth: I started PB Wealth to make a real impact in people’s lives, specifically focusing on professionals and families who may have some time before they retire, but they are in their peak decision-making years and need someone that truly invests in and empowers them. Starting my own RIA has given me the flexibility and independence I need to serve clients in their best interest, without compromise. Carson McLean, CFP®, is the founder of Altruist Wealth Management, a flat-fee, fee-only fiduciary firm serving clients nationwide. With over 15 years of experience in the financial services industry, Carson is committed to helping individuals and families navigate financial complexity with transparent, fiduciary advice—free from the constraints of traditional asset-based fees. Before founding Altruist Wealth Management, Carson was a Regional Director at Dimensional Fund Advisors (DFA), where he partnered with fiduciary wealth management firms to implement evidence-based investment strategies and enhance their financial planning practices. His approach prioritizes financial independence, tax-efficient strategies, and personalized, goals-based planning tailored to each client’s needs. Carson lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, with his wife, Ellen, and their four children—Davy, Frank, Lewis, and Margot. As a parent of child loss, he is deeply committed to advocacy and research for Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC). He serves as president of Frank McLean Forever, a nonprofit dedicated to his son’s legacy, and sits on the board of directors for the SUDC Foundation. Carson holds a BA from Loyola University Chicago and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He completed his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ education at Wake Forest University.

What are the roles in your life that are most important to you? The top three for me are Christian, spouse and parent. The other roles that I’m spending more time in are beach hanger outer (technical term), drummer, basketball coach, concert/live theatre goer, bourbon taster and national park attender. The top three roles require intentionality to do them well. All the other roles require planning. These are all things that I’m not waiting for retirement to do. I’m doing them now and I’m spending more time in them with each year that goes by.
