Birch Street Financial Advisors

I started my career in the tax arena and quickly found my passion in financial planning. In 2019, I started Birch Street Financial Advisors to provide proactive tax-focused financial advice. I help pre-retirees (5-7 years), retirees and widowers align their human and financial resources with their values, solve complex financial problems and minimize taxes to achieve financial security. My role is to be your thinking and accountability partner; empowering you to create, modify and implement financial strategies that give you the comfort to sleep at night. Since launching my firm, I have been featured in numerous publications including InvestmentNews, Money, and U.S. News & World Report to provide insight on tax law changes, Roth IRA conversion strategies, charitable giving and gift & estate planning. I speak on charitable giving strategies to help clients achieve their philanthropic endeavors in a tax optimized way. I have my CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™; and CPA/PFS designations which support my commitment to maintaining a high standard of professionalism in my practice. I am the proud graduate of the University of VA McIntire School of Commerce with both a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Accounting with a Specialization in Taxation. Our financial lives have many moving parts - retirement, cash flow, income tax, investment and estate planning. Each part is a different piece of a complex financial puzzle. I help client's piece the puzzle together and hone in on what's important to them about money and how they can use it to meet their goals. In my spare time, I decompress with Crossfit workouts with my husband, play never ending catch with my rescue dog Macie and experiment with native gardening.

Acadia Financial Services, LLC

Welcome to Acadia Financial Services. It’s different here. From its genesis, we have consciously built a firm that is designed to meet the financial service needs of most individuals and families, while simultaneously addressing many of the hesitations that people face when hiring an advisor. The motivation to form Acadia stemmed from my first experience with a financial advisor. As a Second Lieutenant in the US Air Force back in 1990, I was referred by a friend to his advisor. In short order, it became clear that he did not have my best interests in mind; he did a fairly good job of separating me from my money. I was so dismayed by the incident that I became my own financial advisor, determined to protect others from the same experience. Nearly thirty years later, when it was time to retire from the military, I was called to continue serving others as a Christian financial advisor. I now focus on helping clients pursue financial freedom and contentment. Again, welcome to Acadia Financial Services. I think you will like what you see.

Gladwyn Financial Advisors, Inc.

Gladwyn Financial Advisors, Inc. is owned and operated by Timothy T. Murray and his wife Polly A. Murray. Tim has lived in Northern Virginia since 1972, has been a small business owner since 1993, and a financial planner since 2002. In 2000, Tim and Polly closed their learning center to allow Tim to fully pursue what had been, for many years, his undeniable interest — personal finance. After completing the required coursework and passing the CFP exam in 2002, Tim affiliated with Capital Planning & Investments, Inc. in Fairfax, as a financial planner and investment advisor. In 2005, Tim decided to go it alone and founded Murray Financial, Inc., a registered investment advisory (RIA) firm, which was subsequently renamed Gladwyn Financial Advisors in 2021. Tim’s motivation to start this business was his belief that fee-based investment advice alone, as opposed to dual agency (fee and commissioned based) was most appropriate for, not only him, but more importantly, his clients. As an RIA-only, Tim was then able to serve his clients without the corporate or institutional conflicts-of-interest prevalent in the financial services industry. Gladwyn’s investment advice revenue is limited to hourly charges or fees based on assets under management (AUM). While no longer preparing income tax returns for clients, Tim has been an income tax practitioner since 1986. He is a member of the National Association of Tax Preparers and annually maintains and improves his tax knowledge by way of continuing education courses. In 2006, after discovering that several new clients had previously made very poor divorce settlement decisions, Tim went back to school (again) to earn the Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® (CDFA®) designation so that he could be better equipped to help those going through this very emotional difficult and financially trying time. With Tim's wide range of education, work, and life experiences, he provides a broad and balanced perspective to financial decisions. He enjoys and is fully dedicated to educating others on their personal finances. Whether you are a recent retiree, in mid-career, a small business owner, or a new college graduate, Tim and his team are prepared to help you meet your financial goals and provide you with client-centered financial planning, investment, and tax advice.

Olsen Family Financial, LLC

I am the proud father of four incredible children (all born within 5 years of each other), and husband to a very patient wife (see previous comment). After attending the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, and while serving on Active Duty in the US Air Force as an Acquisitions Officer, I founded Olsen Family Financial, LLC in 2016, where I work as the firm's Lead Financial Planner with a team of two other amazing military veteran advisors. I then completed a Master's of Liberal Arts, Finance degree from the Harvard Extension School, after which I was fortunate to return to the Academy to teach finance and accounting courses. Following that assignment, I was selected for a PhD sponsorship, which I completed in 2024 at THE Ohio State University, with a research focus on how real estate fits into the personal balance sheet, behavioral finance, military finance, and life insurance. As much as I love financial planning, academia, and working with our clients, I'd much rather be skiing in Utah or Colorado, backpacking or paddleboarding in Wyoming, camping at our favorite state park in Ohio (Hocking Hills), or coaching my kids' lacrosse teams. Your finances, your business, your career, etc., are all important. We want to help you optimize those aspects of your life so that you can do the things that really light your fire.
